My perfect Mother’s Day weekend?

I’m pretty easy to please … just give me plenty of time to work in my gardens, cooking a Saturday evening meal at home with my boys, a trip to the local garden store, cookies baking in the oven, a new frog decoration from Joe to add to my collection, and a hot fudge Sunday from DQ.

Check. Check. All the Checks.

Saturday morning in the gardens … my happy place!
(And one of the tin frogs Joe has given me for Mother’s Day over the years is right next to me.)
Garlic is looking fantastic!
Operation Rabbit Proofing = complete! Teacher Man built new fencing for all my raised beds this year and I was an able assistant so we could make fairly quick work of it. He is now calling it “The Rabbit Fortress.” We also worked up all the garden soil so that I can be ready to plant!
A well-deserved cosmopolitan on Saturday night after all the garden prep.
My favorite salmon recipe is from Ina Garten – Panko-Crusted Salmon – because she is simply brilliant and her recipes are no fail. Always.
Saturday night had us catching up on Survivor episodes.
Joe’s Mother’s Day gift to me … a frog planter from my favorite local garden store, The Rustic Garden. It’s tradition for Joe to pick out something with a frog theme for me because frogs have always been a favorite animal for him since he was a toddler.
(And yes, Joe is in his pajamas so shhh! Don’t tell him I posted this. Ha!)
My first trip to The Rustic Garden this month … I focused on veggies and herbs today but I couldn’t resist the Argyranthemum basket, which I think will be perfect for a little spot off our front porch.
The celery is planted! (Along with broccoli, radish seeds, and two types of onions – Spanish White and Walla Walla.)
These daisy-like flowers of the Argyranthemum are so gorgeous!
Here’s Joe awaiting a trip to Menard’s for mulch, potting soil, a couple of packs of veggie seeds (yellow beans and carrots), and Preen … and yep, he looks pretty psyched! 😉 Actually, he was just goofing for the camera and he really was a good sport about helping.
The boys in line at Menard’s … we had three big carts full of mulch but at least we could get it all in one trip!
Sunday afternoon baking … my favorite Triple Chocolate Peanut Butter cookies from A Farmgirl’s Dabbles.
And finally … Sunday evening with a hot fudge sundae from Dairy Queen, control of the remote, and HGTV’s Fixer Upper reruns. Happy Mother’s Day, indeed!

Oops, I spoke too soon. Joe has now joined me in the porch to finish some English homework so the TV had to be shut off for ‘no distractions.’ LOL – that’s okay!

On this Mother’s Day 2019, I’ll leave you with a couple of thoughts running through my head today:

  • Joe made me a mom 15+ years ago and it’s still the very best thing I do every day.
  • I continue to learn much from my mom — including what to plant in Garden Zone 4 and how to make my way around the kitchen (and I still call her with questions!). But one of her best pieces of advice to me came back in elementary school: I could do anything I set my mind to – and to not listen to people who wanted to bring me down.

Happy Mother’s Day to my wise, talented and beautiful Mom – and to my sister and sister-in-law, who are wonderful mothers in their own right, including the best second moms to Joe!

Our family is truly blessed.

xoxo – Lara
